“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

New Borehole at Otumbari Secondary School

borehole-otumbari

Otumbari Secondary School is located in northern Uganda in the Arua District.  305 students board and study at this school.  The borehole is shared by members of the local community and thus promotes good will with members of the village.  The picture shows some of the students at their new borehole.  The wooden structures protect the borehole from damage.   The water drainage that occurs while the students are pumping water into their jerrycans is directed to a vegetable garden near the pump.  The teachers told us that because they can irrigate, the vegetables are thriving.  In fact, they gave us a thank you gift of a pumpkin grown in the garden (see picture), and told us it was the largest pumpkin they had ever grown!!
