A new borehole was drilled last month at St. Edward Kkingo Secondary School in the Masaka District of central Uganda. The villagers in this peri-urban region work as small-scale peasant farmers or traders in small road-side shopping areas. In the past, 205 students learning at this school had to walk to a valley one kilometer from the school to get drinking water from a contaminated underground spring. Access to clean water is a widespread challenge in this region. Students come to study at St. Edward, but also benefit from vegetable gardens on the school grounds, which gives them improved nutrition. Now, thanks to a generous donation from Robert and Gayle Meyer of Indianapolis IN, the students will also have improved health because they have a borehole right on campus that gives them clean water to drink.
Many thanks to Robert and Gayle Meyer of Indianapolis for donating funds for this borehole!!
