This summer, when we visited St. Denis Secondary School in Rakai district, we saw the new borehole that the students are now using to get clean water. The Head Teacher Natulaaya Juliet thanked us for giving the students good health from drinking clean water. She told us that previously, before the borehole was drilled, students suffered from typhoid and dysentery from drinking water from a contaminated pond. The school had to provide meds to the boarding students when they got sick. Now, she explained, she no longer needs to budget costs for extensive meds. She happily reported that, for the 2024-2025 academic year, she was able to use funds, previously budgeted for meds, to purchase the first computer at the school! The students are so happy to have a new laptop computer. This story demonstrates the impact that clean water really has on academic learning at these rural schools in Uganda. Please donate again, so we can keep our success going in 2024!
