In June, when we traveled to Uganda, we were able to take some teaching tools to two of the schools that Quench and Connect is supporting. After we provide a borehole to schools, and as soon as students’ health improves and they become strong and can study, then our next goal is to work with the teachers at the schools to identify their needs for tools to enhance teaching. We were fortunate this year to receive donations to improve teaching curriculum in science laboratories and art classes. First, we received a donation of two 400x Boreal !! microscopes from Ward’s Science, an international science supplier located in Rochester, New York, coordinated by Ms. Nol Vaché Marketing Program Manager. We presented these microscopes to the grateful science teachers at Gayaza Cambridge College of St. Mbaaga, while the Founder Dr. Kakinda Frank and Head Teacher Ssewanyana Gerald looked on (see the picture, biology teacher on the left). These high-quality microscopes will allow the biology teachers to show their students life at the cellular level. At the second school, St. Joseph’s Secondary School, we presented four large bags of supplies for art classes to the art teacher Mr. Lubinga Rhonie and his talented students. Mr. Lubinga is himself a very skilled creative artist and until now was teaching art class with minimal supplies. As you can see in the picture, his students (two rows of them) now have many, many pens, pencils, colored pencils, markers, pastels, paper, etc. to create their art work. The donation of art supplies was made possible by the students in the Quench and Connect Club at Point Loma High School here in San Diego. The students in Gayaza and Kyankwanzi send their thanks and smiles to those who donated these items to their schools!
