A new borehole was drilled early this year on the campus of Bata Secondary School in the Dokolo District of northern Uganda. Most of the people in the region are peasant farmers. The school was founded in 1983, as a government-aided secondary school, as part of a government pledge to provide secondary education to vulnerable children in the northern region that struggled after war with insurgents. The enrollment is 636 girls and boys who study at O and A Level. Their Head Teacher, Ogwal Denis, is an energetic educator who actively advocates to improve the school. His school staff is strong including 30 teachers, 7 non-teaching staff and 15 support employees. Previously, students got their drinking water from a murky hand-dug open well that was located more than 3 km from campus. Water flowed from this pipe only during the rainy season. Now the students at Bata SS have clean water from their new borehole.
This borehole was donated by Rotary Club 33 of San Diego, and others.
Many thanks to Rotary Club 33 of San Diego, and others, for donating this borehole!
